What is SEC?
In short
A name that covers different regulators by country, which is why one acronym needs reading with its location attached.
The letters SEC are used by more than one regulator, so an entry carrying the acronym on its own tells you little. In these facts the acronym points to national bodies, not to one authority. Binance TH lists Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand (SEC), naming the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand, and Bitkub lists Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Thailand and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Thailand Digital Asset Exchange (Cryptocurrency & Digital Token), which names the Securities and Exchange Commission in Thailand and records a digital asset exchange licence for cryptocurrency and digital tokens. busha lists Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Nigeria and Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), naming the Securities and Exchange Commission in Nigeria alongside the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). Kraken is the clearest case: Central Bank of Ireland, CySEC and FCA names the Securities and Exchange Commission and FINRA for the United States, alongside the Financial Conduct Authority, CySEC, FINTRAC, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission style entries, the Central Bank of Ireland and the Austrian Financial Market Authority. Read the country with the acronym, and treat any other open questions as open.
